Position Summary:

Reporting to the Application Engineering Manager, the Service/Lab Technician will assist in duties ranging from electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, test set up and testing of various products, under the guidance of Product Engineering and the mentorship of the Senior Lab Technician.  The Service/Lab Technician will also be responsible for providing field service support as required.  The ideal candidate will have a background in power electronics and will have relevant experience with variable frequency drives for motor drive and power conversion applications with a record of accomplishment

 

The Service/Lab Technician will work in a collaborative environment and assist in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers in a constantly changing technical environment.

 

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

Product Development Support

  • Assist with assembly of prototype components when necessary
  • Test, evaluate, and document product compliance based on engineering requirements to support new product development
  • Perform inductance testing, harmonic analysis, temperature testing, and other performance testing in variable frequency drive applications
  • Participate in cross-functional product development teams

 

Field Service Support

  • Support customer field service and system integration requests as needed
  • Develop and write comprehensive technical reports at the conclusion of customer site visits

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of electrical test lab documentation
  • Maintain constant focus on safety and 5S due to electrical and moving hazards
  • Assist with developing effective test procedures for standard products
  • Assist with evaluation and selection of test equipment to improve lab capability and productivity.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experiences

The ideal candidate for the Service/Lab Techician position will have the following educational background and experience:

  • AS Degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years with three phase industrial equipment
  • Must have solid electrical and mechanical background.
  • Capable of assisting in trouble shooting (electrical and mechanical) issues and developing an efficient solution to resolve problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, must be able to communicate with internal and external customers effectively
  • Knowledge of all tools and can demonstrate the use of tools in their proper application.
  • Working knowledge of three phase industrial power systems
  • Experience in high power circuit preferred (50V and above)
  • Ability to read assembly drawings, wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify connection points that are labeled by either letter, number or color.
  • Proficient at using various pieces of test equipment most used in the industrial motion and drive product environment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, current probes, voltage probes, etc.)
  • Proficient computer skills. Should be familiar with windows-based applications for post processing of test results (MS excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and Passport or ability to obtain a valid passport
